Some Ideas on Leisure Days & Leisure Breaks
featuring a trip on a mainline steam train - The Shakespeare Express

The Shakespeare Express at Snow Hill
Nigel Spurr

Travelling on the Shakespeare Express provides an ideal nostalgic highlight for a day for you and your family & friends.  It could even be a highlight of a weekend break in the Midlands in Stratford, Birmingham or a neighbouring town or village. Many of our customers just come for the ride - that in itself is indeed an excellent day out.

This page offers a few suggestions on how you can incorporate a train ride on the Shakespeare Express with other leisure activities. We give you information about other things that you could see or do in conjunction with a trip on our train. A sort of "starter for ten".  We are sure there are many more ideas, and we have been surprised how customers have blended the Shakespeare Express into their leisure day out.

Henley-in-Arden - is an attractive little town which has retained much of its olde worlde charm even though it is built around the Birmingham to Stratford road. The River Alne runs through the town separating it from Beaudesert, although the two are effectively one sharing a joint parish council. Henley is known for its variety of historic buildings, some of which date back to medieval times. There is a heritage centre & a number of places of interest for tourists to visit or see, several hostelries, eating places & tea rooms including the famous ice cream parlour.

Join the train at Henley: Henley makes an ideal boarding point for the Shakespeare Express for those passengers travelling from the Solihull & Shirley areas who may wish to make the round trip - and maybe take lunch on the train. The Shakespeare Express Lunch Experience Information After arrival back they can then explore the delights of Henley before heading home.

Stop off at Henley: Henley is also an alternative stopover point. Passengers joining the morning Shakespeare Express from Birmingham can alight here and explore Henley before catching the afternooon train for the remainder of the journey and their return to Birmingham. Maybe they take high tea, which is served on the late afternoon train from Stratford. High Tea Information
