Online Bookings

In addition to Telephone & Postal Bookings, we now offer Online Booking through our secure online booking system, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The online system will list available seats in all classes, accommodate passenger requests for Tables for Two in Pullman Dining, note dietary requirements, along with pre-orders for bacon baps, occasional cakes, flowers etc, to enhance that special celebration.

Card Payments

Credit Card Booking Fee:
A charge of £1.50 per booking will be applied for all credit card transactions.

Debit Card and Cheque transactions : no booking fee.

Train Times

Any quoted departure & arrival times are approximate.

Tickets, final information and confirmed timings are mailed out to you AS SOON AS WE RECEIVE FINAL TIMINGS FROM NETWORK RAIL; normally about five to seven days before a tour is scheduled to depart to passengers only.


Valid Tickets

Only Vintage Trains Limited tickets are valid on Vintage Trains excursions & the Shakespeare Express. Concessions available on public trains do not apply.

Tickets are obtainable from the Vintage Trains office or directly from VT staff on the day (subject to seat availability).

Vintage Trains & Shakespeare Express tickets cannot be purchased from station booking offices.

No Smoking

Customers are reminded that UK government legislation prohibits smoking in public places. Areas designated NO SMOKING include ALL CARRIAGES ON ALL TRAINS AS WELL AS RAILWAY PLATFORMS AND PREMISES


Child Fares

Reduced price travel for juniors (age 5-15 years) is available on some Vintage Trains excursions. Please check individual trains for details.

All Juniors must travel with an adult.

Infants under 5 may travel free and should not occupy a seat.

Only one child per adult qualifies for these concessions.


Group Travel

Call us for special group prices, which can start from parties of 10 adults.

Corporate Activities

We are able to provide a range of services for corporate events. This could start from block reserved accomodation within one of our public trains to the hire of a complete dining train with special menus.

Travel Classes

Please see individual tours for confirmation of the seating classes and dining offered.

Premier Dining

Premier Dining in our British Rail Mk1 Pullman coaches is offered on most trains. Seating is at tables for four and a limited number of tables for two (a small 'Table for Two' supplement applies).

The meals offered usually include a generous breakfast on the outbound journey and a 3-course roast dinner on the return..

All dining must be pre-booked.

Special dietary requirements must be requested when making your booking.

There is no special child menu & no concessionary meal tariff fare. 

We regret we are unable to accommodate infants under 5 in the dining cars.

A selection of beers, wines and spirits will be available for purchase from the dining car team.

Club Class

Club Class seating is at tables for four in our recently refurbished BR Mk2 'open' coach and includes complimentary light refreshments on both the outbound and return journeys.

First Class Compartment

Traditional First Class Compartments are available in BR Mk1 coach on selected trains. A limited number of compartments offer six-seats and are ideal for a small group or private party.


Standard Class

Standard Class is available in our British Rail Mk2 'open' coaches at tables for four. A range of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and snacks are available from our Buffet coach located after the end of Standard Class coaches.


Enthusiast Class

Enthusiast Class consists of a limited number of seats in the BR Mk2 standard class buffet 'open' coach on selected trains. The Buffet is guaranteed to be the closest passenger coach to the engine in one direction, providing the best seats on the train for recording the engine sounds etc. There is a small supplement to the Standard fare. The fare includes tea/coffee, a bacon bap in the morning, and a warm snack and cake in the afternoon.


Passengers With Special Needs

We can accommodate a small number of people using wheelchairs. 

It is essential to contact Vintage Trains directly to discuss availability of our facilities and your special needs requirements before making a booking.

Stewards are on duty to answer any questions, to assist passengers who may need some extra help and to try to make your journey comfortable and pleasurable.
