Vintage Trains Society Introduction
VTS activities Vintage Trains Society was formerly known as the Friends of Birmingham Railway Museum.

The Society consists of members who want to provide support to the various subsidiaries of the Birmingham Railway Museum Trust (BRMT) i.e. Vintage Trains (main line operations), Tyseley Locomotive Works (the home base for the Shakespeare Express) and the Visitor Centre (public displays of railway artifacts).

All members share a common interest i.e. to preserve steam and railway heritage for the current and future generations.

Funds raised by the Society are donated to restoration projects, and to support the activities of BRMT including site projects.

The Society sponsors this website and also membership of the Birmingham Heritage Forum

Membership subscriptions finance a newsletter and magazine plus administration costs and any surplus is used for donations to other projects.

The Society sponsored the restoration of Swindon Works Shunters Truck.  Many of the members volunteer their services to Vintage Trains, the Shakespeare Express, Tyseley Locomotive Works or the Visitor Centre.

There are many opportunities, which require a variety of skills and interests

Please note that all volunteers are welcome, and we will endeavour to match their aspirations with the opportunities available. However it must be understood that for the operational activities, individuals will need to undergo appropriate supervised training and assessment of suitability. There may be very limited requirements for more volunteers for some operational activities.
